The Miko Designs story

Translating from Japanese as ‘beautiful child’, Miko is one of our beautiful children.

It's taken many years of creativity to develop Miko Designs. Between us, we have had a brief yet colourful period in a puppetry company, worked in graphic design obsessively kerning in QuarkXpress, cut film, and managed design and typesetting projects.

We are inspired by the endless creative possibilities and love to view other creatives’ processes as they produce quality designs from various materials. We value conceptual and experimental art and design, underpinned by common principles of design applied across disciplines.

Miko Design's goal is to foster a culture of quality design, creativity and innovation. Providing a platform and opportunities for local Canberra and Australian creatives. We want to work with designers who also place high value on ethical and sustainable design. Designers who want to create enduring pieces that last a lifetime, rather than mass produced, disposable items.

When not pursuing design, we are enjoying beautiful Canberra, tending our bees, or seeking the perfectly typeset paragraph.

Good design is as little design as possible -- Dieter Rams

As a retailer of designer furniture and lighting in Canberra, our brand needs to reflect clean, modern design. Having worked through many concepts and iterations, we couldn't be happier with the final result!
